IS pedestrianisation working well in Hove's main shopping area at George Street or it is proving to be a flop?

Brighton and Hove Council claims that the scheme, introduced as an experiment in March, is working well but some traders say that business is down. It seems that cafes at the lower end of the street where table and chairs are put out are faring OK and there are applications for more licences. The shoppers' car park is busy and people walking in the street during the day can do so without fear of fumes and traffic congestion. But there is some evidence that traders in the middle of the street are not doing so well because elderly customers find it a long way to walk either from the car park or from Church Road. The scheme is to be reviewed at the end of the summer. The case may be strong for a pedestrian link to be forged into the car park from the middle of the west side of the street.
