A BRIGHTON vicar is hoping divine intervention will help summon his flock after thieves pinched his church bell.
Father David Biggs discovered the theft when he pulled the rope for morning mass. He thought his hearing was failing until he looked up to find the bell missing. He said: "I was rather shocked when nothing happened." Thieves climbed a 20ft wall at Holy Nativity Church in Norwich Drive, Bevendean, and removed the one-time ship's bell, worth £500. Police think the bell may be sold to a secondhand dealer or at a boot sale.
