Florent Chaigneau revealed today he is still uncertain about his Albion future.

He has played in the last two matches but lurking in the background is the impending return of former loan keeper Wayne Henderson from Aston Villa on a permanent deal.

Chaigneau made his home debut in Saturday's 1-0 exit from the FA Cup against Coventry.

The giant Frenchman took over from Michel Kuipers for his first Championship start in the 2-1 defeat at Southampton five days earlier.

"If Wayne comes it's good for him and he's a good lad but it's not good for me," said Chaigneau. "I don't know what I will do, whether I will stay or leave.

"I just want to play, I need to play. I'm 21, my job is not to be on the bench or injured.

"That's why if Wayne comes I don't know if I will stay or leave. I'm here and Wayne isn't at the moment.

"I am ready for the next game but I don't know whether I will be playing."

The 6ft 5in Chaigneau, signed on a year-long loan from Rennes just after the start of the season, featured in the Carling Cup exit at Shrewsbury in August.

His Southampton call-up was his first appearance since then and came after he apologised to manager Mark McGhee for the way he reacted to missing out on a place against QPR on Boxing Day.

Chaigneau left Withdean in a fit of pique when the fit-again Kuipers was selected instead.

"When I am not playing I'm very upset," Chaigneau said. "In France I played games and I have been in the under-21s. I want to help the team.

"I was ready in my mind to play against QPR. The gaffer didn't give me the chance and I was very, very upset. The day after I went to say sorry and he said it was okay.

"What I did wasn't good for the team but I was very upset for myself. My parents were over for Christmas and they were thinking I was going to play.

"When I got back home I was very angry and wanted to break everything but I couldn't do anything but wait."

Albion are hoping to agree personal terms with Henderson via his representative in time for Saturday's visit by Leeds after agreeing a fee with Villa of £20,000 plus £15,000 if the Seagulls stay in the Championship this season.

Meanwhile, McGhee is encouraged by the recent form of Chaigneau. "Flo is looking better all the time, more confident," he said. "He suddenly looks like a goalkeeper."

Coach Dean White is on another overseas scouting mission today which could lead to the capture of a central midfielder to replace broken ankle victim Charlie Oatway.

The Seagulls are also trying to sign two strikers, one from the British Isles, the other foreign, before Saturday.

Leon Knight, sold to Swansea last week for £125,000, is expected to make his debut tonight in the home clash with Danny Wilson's MK Dons.
