This is the man who was stabbed and left to bleed to death in the road.

Chris Stones, 27, pictured with his baby daughter Tiah, was found last Thursday with a single stab wound to the stomach in what police believe was an unprovoked attack in Pavilion Road, Worthing.

His widow Tabitha today begged the public to help find his killer.

Mr Stones had separated from Tabitha but the pair were still close and he was devoted to Tiah, 21 months, and his son Bobby, four months.

His wife, 34, said: "Chris had been keeping himself to himself lately and I would appeal to anyone who knows what he was doing in the period leading to his death to contact the police."

The couple married in 2001 and had been together seven years. Mr Stones had been best friends with his wife's brother Duncan.

The couple had been separated but in a message left at the scene of the stabbing, Mrs Stones wrote: "I will always love you Chris. You will always be in my heart."

Mr Stones was originally from Stockport, where his mother and five sisters live. He was unemployed, had a wide circle of friends in Worthing and enjoyed fishing off Worthing pier.

He was walking with a friend shortly after 11pm on the night he died and was planning to go into his friend's house.

He did not follow his friend inside and when the man came out again, he found Mr Stones lying on the pavement in a pool of blood.

It is believed Mr Stones, of Cowper Road, Worthing, had been involved in an argument prior to the stabbing.

He moved to Worthing about six years ago and was attending a vocational course in bricklaying at a local college.

Mrs Stones appealed to witnesses or anyone with information about her husband's death to contact Worthing police on 0845 6070999.
