John K Grinstead (Letters, June 6) said the following about the recent protests outside EDO's premises: "With the amount of fuss being made by these protesters, you'd think EDO was manufacturing nuclear weapons".

He may be interested to know that as well as the Paveway bombs, which were the most commonly used in the illegal war on Iraq, EDO is also closely involved in the development of the Storm Shadow SCALP E, a long-range, cruise missile.

Storm Shadow is hotly tipped as the most likely replacement for Britain's Trident nuclear weapons system, currently based at Faslane, Scotland.

Many military analysts believe the Government has already secretly decided to replace it with Storm Shadow and that an announcement will be made to this effect in this Parliament.

So, yes, the chances are EDO will be manufacturing nuclear weapons (illegal under the 1967 Non-Proliferation Treaty) in Brighton shortly.

If you are annoyed by the small, peaceful protests outside your local arms company now, wait until EDO starts work on Storm Shadow.

Police brutality and unjust civil injunctions will not stop protestors from speaking out against war crimes, and, sooner or later, against nuclear weapons.

Brighton and Hove is a "UN 'peace messenger' city". Oh really?
