I was taken aback at the progressive and generous employment conditions enjoyed by the donkeys who carry children along Blackpool Beach (The Argus, May 14).

Under council bylaws (no doubt passed on the hoof) they get an annual medical to ensure their fitness for working during the summer season, an hour's lunch break, each Friday off and the winter spent in a cosy stable.

As a result, I suspect my usual sympathy-seeking gripes of having "worked like a donkey" after a hard day at the office will now fall on deaf ears in my house.

Who is taking whom for a ride? More stick and less carrot I say.
