Now the General Election is over, I see the Lib-Dems are once again claiming the electoral system is unfair in spite of their best haul of seats since 1929.

The sheer beauty of the British voting system is it allows voters to act swiftly and decisively.

In 1997 and 2001 we were determined to give Labour landslide victories - and we did. In 2005, we were determined to rein in Prime Minister Blair - and we have.

The real evil of PR is it destroys the vital link between constituency MP and voter. At the moment what we see on the doorstep in terms of candidates is what we vote for. Long may it continue.
