She is not yet 18, looks a million dollars and plays the violin like an angel. She is a definite star in the making and heading straight for the top.

Born in Scotland of Italian stock, Ms Bennedetti was last year's BBC Young Musician of the Year having already won a similar award from Carlton Television in 2003.

She has already appeared as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Kwai Kwaiz Ulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in South Africa and with the Scottish Opera.

She plays with a maturity and a depth way beyond her years and with a great feeling for her instrument, a 1751 Petrus, Guarnereni of Venice.

Her bowing is crisp and elegant and she exudes confidence and ability. She made fine work of Schubert's Rondo in B minor and gave an exquisitely exponent reading of Debussy's Sonata.

But the real magic came in her reading of Brahm's Sonata in C minor, a fiendishly difficult piece for a veteran, let alone a youngster like Ms Bennedetti.

This was playing with a deep investment and knowledge which transported me into a dreamy stratosphere.
