Albion fans have vowed to give John Prescott a noisy reception if he has not said yes to their new stadium by the time of the Labour conference in September.

The Deputy Prime Minister is expected to make his decision before Christmas but is facing pressure to deliver a speedy verdict to prevent the Seagulls sliding further into debt.

The Argus has been inundated with hundreds of messages from supporters while the city's three MPs today submitted a Parliamentary motion reminding the Government how badly the city needs Falmer.

Tomorrow we are publishing a four-page dossier of your messages of support for Falmer. MPs David Lepper, Des Turner and Celia Barlow will then present copies of the paper to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

Paul Samrah, chairman of campaign group Falmer For All, said: "We are planning to blitz the Labour Party during the conference to get our message across.

"The main event will be a seafront march which we are planning now and will be even bigger than the 4,000-strong crowd we got last year.

"We hope the decision comes before but, if it doesn't, any niggling doubt John Prescott may have about the level of support for this stadium will be erased by what we are planning.

"Anything we do will be conducted with our usual warmspirited humour."

Mr Samrah welcomed news of the Labour MPs' motion calling for a swift verdict.

He said: "Anything that keeps the pressure up is a good thing.

"Tony Blair and John Prescott are already well aware of what the big issue is down here but it doesn't hurt to remind them.

"The three MPs will have to do well to beat the 140 signatories we got on a similar early day motion last September."

Brighton Pavilion MP Mr Lepper said: "The three of us felt we wanted to make the point about the importance of support for a stadium application as soon as possible in the new Parliament to make sure it stayed on the agenda."

Mr Turner, MP for Brighton Kemptown, said: "If there is any element of doubt in the Secretary of State's mind, we want him to know what our feelings are. It is so important for the future of the club and it will be an asset to the whole community."

Mrs Barlow, on her first day in Parliament after winning the Hove and Portslade seat, said: "I hope this motion will draw attention to the desperate need of the club and the city for Falmer, particularly in light of the club's current financial situation."

Albion chairman Dick Knight yesterday announced the club had suffered a deficit of £1,273,000 in the year leading up to June 2004.

Mr Knight said: "Celia Barlow, David Lepper and Des Turner have always supported Falmer and I am absolutely delighted they are taking the first opportunity in the new Parliament to enforce our need for a new stadium.

"The economics mean we cannot support this club while we are playing at Withdean."

He said the Seagulls had spent £3 million on the Falmer project and a further £2.5 million on bringing Withdean up to league standards.
