Ifield captain Graeme Dean is refusing to be drawn into title talk after his side's unbeaten start to the division one season.

Ifield, who finished third last summer, beat Goring by nine wickets on Saturday to go 20 points clear at the top of the table with three games played.

Dean led the way with 69 not out in a second wicket partnership of 131 alongside Nuwan Fernando (64) as Ifield cruised to 181-1 in reply to Goring's total of 178-9.

Fernando had earlier taken 5-51, while Rob Hemmingway (55) and Peter Rebera (46) top scored for Goring.

Dean said: "It is looking pretty good so far and we are all happy to be at the top but there is no way we are thinking about the title yet.

"It is still very early and we don't want to say anything which might make us look stupid at the end of the season.

"We have won all three of our matches convincingly so far and the way we have played is very encouraging.

"The players have another year's experience which is helping us get the results. The win against Goring was comfortable but we didn't do anything spectacular, we just stayed patient. Our aim is just to carry on doing that and see what happens."

Dean has tipped last season's champions Findon, Broadwater and newly promoted Billingshurst as the main title contenders this season.

He said: "Findon are the favourites and they are always going to be up there. I think Broadwater will do well and Billingshurst look as though they are going to be strong as well.

"We play Broadwater and Billingshurst over the next two weeks, which will give us an indication of how good we are."

Billingshurst, who finished as division two runners-up last year, showed their title credentials by beating Findon by 49 runs.

They were left all out for 136 after being inserted but it proved enough as Matthew Hoyte (4-35) and Jason Rigby (4-36) helped skittle Findon for just 87.

Broadwater eased to a 115-run victory at Arundel after setting a target of 187-8. Bob Reynolds top scored with 64, before Joe Owen took 4-32 to leave Arundel all out for 72.

Russell Martin hit 117 not out as Southwick picked up their first win of the season at Pagham. Martin helped put on 153 for the third wicket with Dan Fenwick (60 not out) as the Wickers made 214-2.

Pagham lost a player to injury in reply and were left all out for 81 with Paul Grennan claiming 5-36.

Crawley Eagles went top of division two following a maximumpoint win at Keymer and Hassocks. Eagles restricted the hosts to 136 all out, which they reached with nine wickets to spare thanks to a second wicket partnership of 138 between Tayab (79 not out) and Fallah Udin (60 not out).

Andre De Beere hit 127 as Slinfold made 221-9 in a home draw against Lindfield.

Steve Pearce took 5-58 for the visitors, who posted 183-8 in reply with Scott Clark (86 not out) top scoring.

Sam Jerramiah scored 114 not out for Scaynes Hill but it was not enough to prevent a three-wicket defeat against Selsey.

Hill chalked up 200-6 which Selsey reached inside 46 overs with Anthony Benham (55) top scoring.

Burgess Hill beat Barns Green by four wickets after making 213-6 thanks to 85 from Shaun Kevern. Stephen Godfrey (59), Tom Filby (42) and Oli Lambkin (41 not out) top scored in Green's total of 211-4.
