Following the inquest on the horrific accident last year at Pyecombe on May 16, may I tell the flip side of the story.

At the time, I was in the Royal Sussex County Hospital having had a knee replacement.

Following a "red alert" and despite pressure on the nurses and staff, they were magnificent.

Beds were made up and people moved at a rate of knots.

Agency staff were called in at short notice, no doubt at huge cost to the NHS, and everyone worked at frantic speed.

It is sad to think their superhuman efforts went without praise or recognition.
