I was amused by Frank Blake telling us that in Belgium "bicycles and pedestrians mingle quite easily and if they hit a pedestrian they would be fined." (Letters, April 18).

Well, well, how would they be fined? Pay the pedestrian there and then or ride off as fast as they can?

Or do they carry number plates? Because that is the only way. Our cyclists will only obey the law when they know they can be identified.
