Glancing through a copy of Pike's Blue Book for Brighton and Hove for the year 1936, I saw listed among the Church of England Churches was St Stephen's (Faith Healing Church).

It was in Montpelier Place and the priest-in-charge was Rev J Maillard. Can anyone give me any information about this church and when it ceased to exist?

During the 20th Century the Church's Ministry of Healing, which had been neglected for centuries, was revived.

Many Anglican parishes today hold healing services. In light of the proposed closure of ten Anglican churches in Brighton and Hove, I wonder if one of them could be set aside for a healing ministry.

This would be a good use for St Mary's in Bristol Road, Kemp Town.

It is near two hospitals and the new medical school and could be adapted with counselling rooms and consulting rooms and a specialised staff of doctors and clergy trained and called to exercise a healing ministry.

A modern day precedent is to be found in St Marylebone Parish Church, London, where clergy and doctors work side by side in bringing holistic healling to many.
