When I visit Hove Library I have to cross the congested and increasingly busy Church Road at what seems its narrowest point.

I am so concerned with trying to avoid the traffic I'm afraid I'm in no state to appreciate "the intrinsic relationship between its outside and inside and its relationship with its users."

I must confess, however, to a slight feeling of claustrophobia when I get inside as I edge my way between the narrow shelves and the numerous computer users while feeling sorry for the staff who now have to try to get a quart into a pint pot.

Perhaps when the Green Party candidate refers to "a relationship with its users" she has in mind the number of elderly borrowers ?

One gets the impression the last thing Friends of Hove Library have in mind when they go there is moving easily around the shelves, finding a suitable book, a place to sit and browse and then doing some shopping.

It seems they only go there to admire the architecture - as some now do with the new Brighton Library.
