Darren Tidey scored a penalty in the last minute of extra time to put Ringmer in dreamland.

Mighty Worthing of the Ryman premier were expected to dump John Crumplin's County League upstarts out of the Sussex Senior Cup.

But Tidey's cool finish had former Albion defender Crumplin wondering whether he can lift the trophy for a fourth time.

Ringmer are in the semi-final hat with big guns Crawley, Lewes and Bognor.

Crumplin, who won twice with Albion and once with Bognor, said: "We will give it a go. This is a big result for the club.

"I'm sure Worthing will be aggrieved at the penalty and from where I was it was difficult to see."

The crucial moment came when referee Warren Atkins penalised Marc Pullan for a challenge on Dominic Shepherd.

Rebels assistant manager Danny Bloor said: "I thought it was a dive. The referee missed a blatant handball by Ringmer's Paul Thomsett a few minutes earlier.

"Good luck to Ringmer. It seems as though they wanted it more."

In truth, Worthing had enough chances to have won the tie four times over with Shaun Grice and Pullan hitting the woodwork and Sam Francis missing a sitter.

Ringmer's tactics were not pretty. They harried their more sophisticated opponents who were fresh from a draw at leaders Yeading. But history repeated itself. A late penalty denied Rebels three points in Middlesex on Saturday.

Worthing boss Alan Pook, who missed the match through illness, would not have been cheered by the extra bad news that Nko Ekoku (thigh) and Francis (foot) came off injured.
