History repeated itself when Jon Yon became the Laughing Policeman in front of millions of television viewers.

The stunned business adviser from Newhaven was pulled from the audience on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

He was given just 15 minutes to get into costume and relearn the song he had played 16 years ago on Bob Monkhouse's Opportunity Knocks.

Jon was competing against other unsuspecting audience members who had also featured in the popular talent contest in 1989.

But this time, rather than finishing runner-up Jon won the competition - and a chance to share a drink with Ant and Dec backstage.

Jon said: "It was the last thing that I was expecting but I really enjoyed doing the Laughing Policeman act after all this time.

"It was especially good that I won this time round.

"At one point my moustache started to peel away so I pulled it off but then all the glue got stuck to my hand while I was playing the accordion."

Jon, who plays various instruments, including the guitar and clarinet, is Newhaven's Enterprise Gateway director, helping entrepreneurs start and develop their businesses.

He said: "Somehow my friends and family had managed to keep the whole thing a secret from me so it came as a complete surprise."
