Lewes boss Steven King refused to make excuses after a shock home defeat against lowly Sutton United.

The Rooks dominated for long spells and had strong shouts for a penalty turned down in the second half when Jon Nurse was brought down.

Defender Francis Duku then hit the bar with a header and Lee Newman, still on 99 goals for the club, sent the rebound wide from close range.

Lewes were made to pay ten minutes from time when the visitors snatched the points thanks to a Tony Quinton strike.

King said: "We should have wrapped it up because we had enough chances. But if you don't take them, you get punished and that's what happened. We feel hard done by but sometimes things don't go for you and you have to accept it.

"Of the teams around us, only Eastbourne Borough won so it was not as bad as it could have been."
