Worthing manager Alan Pook was fuming after a controversial late penalty denied them three points at leaders Yeading.

A superbly-taken Lee Charles goal had given a dominant Rebels side the lead but, despite Yeading being reduced to ten men after Nevin Saroya had been sent off in the final ten minutes, the hosts grabbed a late leveller following a foul by Andy Alexander.

Pook said: "There was one linesman who spent more time speaking to the Yeading dugout than concentrating on the game and he gave the penalty in the last minute. It was not a penalty.

"Alexander was seeing the ball back to the keeper and their player ran into him and then fell to the floor.

"The linesman, from 20 yards behind play, flagged and there was another tackle before the referee spotted him and gave the penalty. It was a joke."

DJ Campbell scored from the spot but Pook felt the goal did not deflect from another good performance from his side, especially as other results went their way with play-off rivals Leyton and Staines drawing and Hampton losing.

Pook said: "That is four points we have taken off Yeading this season. They told us that we are the best side they have played this season with the exception of Newcastle who they met in the FA Cup.

"We dominated the first half and they hardly had a chance. It's a good point for us even though it is disappointing to concede such a late goal.

"We are a 3-1 chance for the play-offs with those other teams, so to get a point at the leaders is a better result for us than what they achieved."

Pook's side play Ringmer again tomorrow in the Sussex Senior Cup quarter final after the first meeting was abandoned at half-time.

Pook has suggested that the gate money should go to Ringmer player Cameron Johnson, who is currently recuperating from a broken leg.

Pook said: "Ringmer have already had the gate money from the first game so it would be a nice gesture if the money from the second match could go to Cameron to help him out a bit."
