I don't believe my letter on Hove Library was so ambiguous as to lead Christopher Hawtree to infer I am "glad the space at the new Brighton Library does not contain as many books as it should".
Rather I implied the installation of a lift in Hove Library - despite it being a listed building, by the way - would exacerbate the cramped conditions there.
When he refers to them as "spendidly compact", however, I can only conclude he must be an estate agent.
