Hastings star Peter Tadros continued his good early-season form by finishing second in the A3 CRG club's ten-mile time trial at Petersfield.
Winchester rider Danny Axford (Arctic RC) won the event in 22min.43sec and lowered the course record by 1min.31sec.
Tadros (In Gear) clocked 23.13 and Chris Birch (Evans Cyclas) was third in 23.49.
Scottish ace Duncan Urquhart (Viner Bikes) had to settle for fourth in 23.51.
Petworth rider Dave Shepherd (Liphook Cycles), the former national 24-hour champion, was seventh fastest in 25.02, while team-mate Toby Neaves from Lavant was ninth.
Geoff Smith, of Sussex Nomads, was 12th in 26.29.
Riders had to battle against a bitterly cold wind in Brighton Mitre's 23-mile event for their own members over two laps of a Poynings circuit.
Despite the conditions, Tristan Court's winning time of 59.50 was only the third time that the hour had beeen beaten since 1973. Tim Holmes was runner-up im 1hr 1min 46secs.
The Sussex CA's 23-mile open time trial on Sunday has drawn a quality field.
In Gear pair Tadros and Chris Yates and VC Etoile's Tim Mardall are among the local riders while the visitors are led by Hampshire's Ben Instone (A3 CRG) who already has one win under his belt this year.
The 23-mile event starts in Staplefield at 8.30am and riders face the tough climb up to Handcross at the start.
