I voted against Brighton and Hove City Council's proposals to pull the financial plug on the Big Issue Foundation.
Labour and Tory councillors and senior council officers appear to believe that, by withdrawing support from the foundation, they will reduce the number of homeless people coming to Brighton and Hove.
They are wrong. The city will remain a magnet for people looking for somewhere to live.
They come because Brighton and Hove has a large supply of privately-rented flats and bed-sits and because support services for vulnerable people are relatively good.
By withdrawing support for the Big Issue Foundation, the council is weakening these services.
The result will be more pressure on existing services and more homeless people at risk.
-Bill Randall, Green Councillor for Hanover and Elm Grove
