On behalf of Three Bridges, Pound Hill and Copthorne branch of the Royal British Legion, I wish to convey my heartfelt thanks to customers of Tesco's store at Hazelwick for their generous contribution of £2,403.92, plus a further £591.48 in store and £1,503.88 collected at Three Bridges train station from commuters.

Our thanks to Tesco and British Rail which gave the necessary permission and to all the volunteers who collected on our behalf, plus our new helpers, the NTC.

In addition, we thank everyone in various shops, offices and schools for their generous donations, which brought our total to a new record of £13,091.61, an increase of 6.4 per cent over last year.

I have just spent a week at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton after having major surgery and would like to thank all the staff on Level 8 in the tower block. They were all very kind and efficient.

I would also like to thank my surgeon Dr C Zamit and consultant Dr N Vaughan, who will all help me back to full recovery.
