Two outstanding Gary Charman goals and a header by Marc Cable saw Horsham return as worthy winners from Newport (IoW).
The Hornets strode into a 3-1 lead courtesy of two superbly taken goals by Charman and a powerful header by the on-loan Cable, but a late goal by Dave Greening, his second of the match, raised the spectre of a similar collapse to the one at Met Police in midweek when John Maggs' men squandered a 3-1 lead before eventually losing 4-3.
Maggs said: "The late goal did cause a little bit of panic as minds went back to the Met Police defeat but we never went to those extremes this time and I always felt we were going to stay in front.
"We played some very good football at times and Gary's goals were outstanding.
"Results elsewhere also went for us with AFC Wimbledon drawing and Burgess Hill beating Walton. It is all happening."
