Once a fairly obscure underground act, Scottish alt-popsters Ballboy have seen their profile rise considerably over the six years they've been together as band.
They may not have had a huge amount of support from the mainstream press, but their cult following has been steadily expanding through word of mouth.
In this, they have been assisted by their undenialbe talent for eye-catching song titles (I Hate Scotland, All The Records On The Radio Are Sh*te, I Wonder Whether You're Drunk Enough To Sleep With Me Tonight), a duet with American country star Laura Cantrell, and the support of the late great John Peel.
With the recent release of their fourth album The Royal Theatre, the Edinburgh-based quartet look set to win over a new wave of fans with their intelligent, lo-fi take on pop.
If this sounds like the sort of things that floats your boat, or if your record collection includes a couple of albums by (whisper it) Belle & Sebastian and you fancy taking a gamble, then head down to the Freebutt and join the converted.
Support comes from Rotating Leslie.
Starts 8pm, tickets cost £5/4. Call 01273 603974.
