As Chairman of the Hove and Portslade Conservative Association, I was taken aback by the article headlined "Tories are accused of hypocrisy over flats".

I heard some time ago that the Conservative Club were putting in a planning application in order to make the most of their resources in Blatchington Road.

The club is quite independent of the Hove and Portslade Conservative Association, however, although under Party rules a small percentage of the membership fee is paid to the Conservative Association in order to use the name. This has always been the case.

Members of the Conservative Party do not have automatic access to the club. Nor does the Hove and Portslade Conservative Association have any representation on the club's management committee.

It appears we are being accused of involvement in a matter over which we have no control. We are separate entities.
