As convenor of the Hova Group (Heritage Over Vandalism, Actually!) I suppose I should be flattered that the potential developers of the King Alfred site find the opposition so formidable they have recruited film star Brad Pitt to their team (The Argus, November 27).

We do not need an equivalent figurehead. Ours is surely Common Sense.

One has only to study the damning photomontage of Los Angeles architect Frank Gehry's early proposals with your front-page report to realise this. I am pleased we helped to secure the demise of this version.

However, vigilance with the forthcoming version will be essential. It is expected the height of the skyscrapers will be reduced but the number of flats on top of the new leisure centre would be increased by 35 per cent to 590.

The density of development would be quite alarming.

We wait with trepidation to see whether or not Gehry's grotesque design will be repeated in a different form.

As I have said before, our fine Hove seafront is not the place for experiments in "the architecture of deformity".

* Karis must be desperate for support for their King Alfred scheme if they need to bring a Hollywood actor who has never been to Brighton on their side. Or is this just a publicity stunt for both Brad Pitt and Karis?

* If the Gehry monstrosity is built at least it will be safe from terrorist attack. It looks like someone has already done it.

* The citizens of Brighton and Hove have always thought the design for the King Alfred development was the Pitt's. It is nice of Karis to confirm it.
