The news that Newhaven is being given £500,000 to improve the town's appearance is interesting reading (The Argus, November 25).
Can you demolish a town for £500,000? If anyone can suggest a more poorly-planned, badly-developed, unattractive conurbation, surrounded by beautiful countryside, I would be amazed.
The pedestrian precinct is ruined by the grand prix circuit around it.
The hideous warehouses to the east and north are also eyesores.
Whoever agreed the planning for Newhaven either lived in Dorset or placed a paper bag over their heads when driving over the Ouse.
Okay, I'm sure some streets look nice enough on the hills to the west but Newhaven is a fine reason for the systematic sacking of people called town planners.
