A pregnant bride told her fiance their wedding was off when he got back from his stag night.

Katrina Dawson also told the groom, Darren Wicker, she did not want to have their baby, a court heard.

He was upset by the revelation and after his partner went to bed, sent her a text message saying he had taken some pills in a suicide attempt.

Miss Dawson phoned the police but when three officers arrived at the couple's Crawley home, Wicker is alleged to have attacked them.

Wicker, 29, of Lindgren Walk, Broadfield, denies affray.

Walton Hornsby, prosecuting, told Hove Crown Court the couple had come home on April 4 after separate stag and hen nights, a week before they were due to get married.

Mr Hornsby said: "She told him that the marriage was off and that she was going to terminate their child.

"He said he was going to take some pills and commit suicide."

Katrina Dawson, who had known Wicker for 15 years, said: "I had spoken to Darren about it before we went out.

"I was not sure if it was my hormones because I was pregnant or if it was jitters about the wedding.

"I told him I did not feel that I could go through with it. He was very upset."

Fearing he had taken an overdose, Miss Dawson called the police to the house they were then sharing in Haydn Close, Broadfield, Crawley.

Sergeant Andrew Sanford and PCs Kevin Smith and Sean McCowan went to what they thought was a suicide attempt.

Mr Hornsby said Wicker, a former weightlifter, told the officers he had not taken any pills and agreed to leave.

However, he returned soon afterwards and the officers had to restrain him after he lunged at Miss Dawson.

Mr Hornsby said: "One of the officers was punched, one was throttled and the other was bear-hugged.

"It seems as if Wicker had superhuman strength as he lifted two officers up off the ground and threw them around.

"The officers used their Captor spray, batons and handcuffs to restrain him."

Miss Dawson later discovered a suicide note saying: "You were the most important person in my life but that has all gone now.

"I cannot go on any more. I love you but that is just not enough."

The trial continues.
