My wife and I have been keen supporters of the Martlet's Hospice charity for many years and were really keen to support their Collections Fair at Hove Town Hall on Sunday, November 28, until we read their opening times - 10am-4pm.

Underneath these times, in very small print in brackets, were the words "Trade 8.30am".

It is obvious that "Trade" has to be involved in the everyday running of big charities but, when it comes to the annual fair, why don't they let the public have a chance to buy some of their treasures at trade price. Many of us would be only too pleased to pay trade prices for something worth buying.

The public like to buy things that give them pleasure and most of us would willingly pay that bit extra. After all, a tradesman is only going to re-sell what they buy and, naturally, they are going to buy the best of the goods. It seems Joe Public can fight over what's left.

Why not, for goodness sake, just this one day of the year, let us all have a chance?
