With the fox-hunting controversy going to the High Court, I wonder how many more years this issue will go unresolved?
The Countryside Alliance want a judicial review of the newly-imposed ban on their sport and way of life which was passed by Parliament using the Parliament Act of 1911. As that act has never been sanctioned by the Lords, the Countryside Alliance is questioning its legality.
Tony Blair was right to seek a compromise solution to this highly controversial issue. However, the views on both sides are entrenched so no compromise has been found.
The ban will mean many huntsmen and women will be breaking the law. Democracy cannot work if we only obey the laws we like.
My major concern is the cost of taking this issue through the judicial system. Unless attitudes change, it will take many years to be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
