Rye and Iden started with ten men but still won 4-0 away to the County League leaders.

Simon Fox was the hero with all the goals as Horsham YMCA were stunned in the John O'Hara Cup.

Rye had already been badly hit by withdrawals and were under-manned for the first 12 minutes as they waited for Tim Olorunda, who had been delayed at work.

Manager Glyn White came up with a 4-5-1 formation and it paid off as lone frontrunner Fox had a field day.

White said: "We let them come on to us and we left Foxy, who is the best in the league at bringing people into the game, on his own up front."

YM boss John Suter offered no excuses. He admitted: "We were poor. They thrashed us."

Seaford pushed Hassocks all the way but eventually went down 2-0 in extra time as Robins boss Dave John brought on strikers Pat Harding and James Laing following lengthy spells out with injury and they rewarded him with the goals.

Seaford keeper Kieran Maher was culpable for both as he spilled a Harding shot into the net before his attempted clearance hit Laing and the striker struck from distance.

Eastbourne Town manager Dave Winterton felt his side were great value for a 3-0 victory over Arundel with Steve Dallaway (two) and Ben Billings on target.

Winterton said: "We played very well and without being disrespectful to Arundel, 3-0 flattered them. I have told the players that we have to perform like that every week but we are a young side and inconsistent."

Whitehawk also turned it on in the League Cup and could afford to miss a penalty through Paul Stevenson as goals by Tommy Pattenden, young sub Richard Watton and Ben Garman saw them to a 3-1 win over East Preston, who replied through Danny McLaughlin.

Hawks boss Ian Chapman said: "Stevenson has been different class in recent games but he failed to find the target with the penalty. It was not a good one!"

In the RUR Cup, Ringmer sunk Selsey 4-1 with goals from Darren Tidey (2), Matt Beeston and youngster Paul Povey, who was making his first start of the season for the first team, were on target.
