I read with interest the letter from Shirley Reeve (Letters, November 22) concerning bus services 12 and 712 between Peacehaven and Brighton.

May I suggest she obtains a copy of Bus Times, provided by Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company, and refers to pages 3, 38 to 41 and 90 to 91 - all her problems will be over.

The fact Stagecoach is unaware of one of its own services does not surprise me in the least. On Saturday, November 20, its withdrew its service 9 between Southwick Square and Portslade station, publishing this fact some weeks in advance by the use of revised timetables.

However, signs and timetables on bus stops affected by the withdrawal were not altered, with the result that on November 22, many elderly residents of Manor Hall Road, Southwick, queued for a bus which was not going to arrive.

Not everyone can be expected to have access to revised timetables but Stagecoach certainly has access to bus stops used by its services.

When I asked Stagecoach when the removal of its bus information from stops was to take place, I was advised there was only one man in the organisation responsible for the work required and his duties covered a large area of Sussex and Kent. Apparently, he is a busy man.

To Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company's credit, it is usually very efficient in altering bus stop information. There is also a helpful information bureau sited in Western Road, opposite the 12/712 bus stops.

My advice to your correspondent would be to travel with Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company if there is a choice of services between two points. It does try to look after its customers.
