Eastbourne and Heathfield have kept Sussex interest alive in the national knockouts.

The county's two remaining teams in the London section of the Powergen Junior Vase both had thrilling home wins to go into the last 32 nationally.

Centre Matt Skinner was the match winner for Heathfield as they edged past Surrey One outfit London Exiles 14-13.

He kicked a penalty with 37 second-half minutes played to nudge his side ahead, though they then had to survive 11 tense minutes of added time. It was Skinner's third penalty of the afternoon.

The only home try came after strong work at a scrum allowed centre Guy Woods to make a blindside break and get to the line.

Eastbourne produced a comedy of errors for 25 minutes at home to Ashford, then bounced back from 15 points down for a 21-15 win.

An intercepted pass and a dropped ball gifted the visitors two tries, to which they added a conversion and a monster penalty.

Eastbourne were back in the game just before half-time when big lock Dom Groenen got over at the posts. Nathan Ring, back from a six-week ban, converted but then failed with two kickable penalties, leaving Eastbourne still 15-7 adrift at the break.

A run by scrum half Matt Pysden led to the second home try 12 minutes after the re-start. Teenage wing Matt Grenfell carried the move on, then Danny Craven swapped passes with Jamie Bremer before getting to the posts with Ring again adding the extra points.

No. 8 Matt Thompson wasted a big overlap but made up for it near the end with the final try, again improved by Ring.

The fifth round draw is made this week.
