There is not a single resident in Goldsmid who wants to return to the dangerous and unworkable parking mess we all had to put up with for years before the current zone O parking scheme was introduced but the proposed changes to the scheme will do just that.

Outsiders to Goldsmid will never understand the instant and fantastic result parking control made to the residents' quality of life in our ward. Sadly, no amount of traffic surveys, clipboards and meetings can show up this simple fact.

It is little wonder that people are so angry at the prospect of losing all of this only a couple of years after it was gained. Residents got a scheme to their satisfaction and were told there would be a review after one year. What have we got? The same proposal that was rejected last time around - but worse.

Adding insult to injury, the keystone request is to increase the original ten-hour pay-and-display proposal to 11 hours. In your dreams! We fought to get the ten-hour bays changed to four hours and I can't see why the council is now bending over backwards to break its own policy on commuter car journeys.

The traffic planning department's consultation survey has three variations, with two for the over-parked neighbourhoods and one for the original O zone, which is already the largest parking zone in the city. However, the O zone survey does not ask: "Do you want these extended areas in your scheme?" I can't find a box to tick for that one. However, the versions put out to the other OE areas asked them if they wanted to come into our scheme. I've asked the council complaints department to look into that.

Even worse, there is not a hint of a suggestion that the West Hill parking scheme, which is the closest scheme to the mainline station, or the new Port Hall scheme (they're closer than Goldsmid to Brighton station) should also be taking on commuters.

They've got two-hour and four-hour stays over there. Those residents don't suffer this nonsense - why should we? Anyone with half an ounce of common sense can see there is discrimination going on here.
