Albion manager Mark McGhee hopes to have Millwall striker Mark McCammon on board for next Saturday's important home game against rock-bottom Rotherham.

The visit by the whipping boys of the Championship coincides with the conclusion of Adam Virgo's three-match suspension, and McGhee is keen to have a replacement target man in by then.

The Argus exclusively revealed earlier this month that the muscular McCammon is available to Albion on loan after their hopes of signing him permanently were dashed by Millwall demanding a transfer fee.

McGhee, who signed McCammon for Millwall from Brentford in March 2003, said: "My priority is a target man, because Adam Virgo is going to go back into the defence eventually and Steve Claridge is 38."

Albion are likely to have a new forward to face Rotherham one way or another.

The Seagulls had lined up a loan move for Arsenal prospect Quincy Owusu-Abeyie until the 18-year-old Dutchman came off the bench to score in the Gunners' Carling Cup win against Everton at Highbury.

Arsenal visit Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup on Wednesday. If they are knocked out then Owusu-Abeyie could become available.

Chairman Dick Knight said: "Mark McCammon is one of the options we are looking at and there is also the Arsenal option.

"The possibility of getting Quincy remains very much open. If we had the finances we'd go for both."
