I often agree with Selma Montford's letters but certainly not with the one headlined "Floral Blunder" (Letters, November 19).
Selma really has got this one wrong. Brighton has long held a wonderful record for beautiful gardens.
The Brighton Parks and Gardens department was the envy of many towns throughout this country. In the Sixties and Seventies, people came from miles around to view the wonderful garden displays leading down into the town. Their comments made you feel proud to be a Brightonian.
The wonderful record has continued since that time though I have often believed that, possibly due to financial cutbacks by Brighton and Hove City Council, the standard may have slipped a little.
Enough of our heritage - local and otherwise - is disappearing as it is. Please don't ask for cutbacks in our floral displays.
The cost of bedding wallflowers may be a little higher but it is definitely the best way to plant large displays.
I am looking forward to next spring, when we can see the beauty of the council's large flower displays in Old Steine and enjoy the beautiful bouquet emanating from the wallflower display, the aroma wafting across Old Steine in the breeze.
