As people start to think about Christmas card lists and contacting their own loved ones, I would like to ask readers of The Argus to add one or more additional names to their list this year and send greetings and a message of hope to prisoners and threatened people around the world.

Amnesty International's annual card campaign encourages you to send greetings to people who face persecution, torture and other human rights abuses.

We know from messages received from people previously featured that these cards are a great source of hope and encouragement.

The cards show the authorities the world is still watching and we can help lift the spirits of those who need our support.

For individuals at risk, receiving one card or overhearing an incredulous conversation by captors about cards being received can truly lift the spirits.

People such as Elmer Salvador Gutierrex Vasquez in Peru, who decorated his cell with the greetings cards sent to him last year.

This year, send one extra card and help challenge injustice.

Anyone who wants more information should contact us at the addresses below.
