I was very pleased to read Gavin Henderson, the father of the modern Brighton Festival, has been made a CBE at Buckingham Palace (The Argus, November 17).
The award recognises his services to the arts and his great contribution to the success of the Brighton Festival.
He has told how Brighton was his inspiration and has been described as one of the most dynamic personalities on the national and international music scene.
He has lived in Brighton and Hove throughout his life. Gavin has described the award as an enormously proud moment for him but the thing he is most proud of is being called Mr Brighton by The Argus.
He has worked on and contributed to the Brighton Festival for many years, making the event the great success it has become for the city.
It attracts thousands of visitors each year. Brighton and Hove City Council leader, Ken Bodfish, has paid glowing tributes to him. We owe Gavin a lot for all he has done and continues to do towards the growing success of the city in the world of the arts.
We thank him for all of his efforts and congratulate him on the award of his CBE.
