Following the introduction of parking charges in Lewes, I would like to know exactly when the council proposes to erect sufficient lighting in Brook Street car park.
At present there is none. When I leave work at my town centre office to return to my car (which, incidentally is essential in my line of work), it is pitch black.
I then find myself walking alone through a large, deserted and unlit car park on the edge of an industrial estate. I would defy anyone not to feel unnerved by this.
At £5 a day, car parks closer to the town centre are simply not an option for many workers. I trust the council will therefore deem it proper to dip into their profits from the parking plan and make adequate provision for the personal safety of those who live and work in Lewes.
Or is this just another example of the sloppy manner this ill-thought out regime has introduced.
