Mark Blackman may protest that he left university in debt instead of being "bankrolled" by taxpayers (Letters, November 12) but he should remember that, among other things, young people are entering university in increasing numbers.

The prospect of debt is not discouraging them.

As for, "Out with Caplin and in with Boles" - now overtaken by events - he should have said, "Out with Tony Blair and in with Michael Howard", a quite different prospect.
