The proposed development for the Marina with its towers built in the outer harbour certainly looks very impressive (The Argus, November 18).
What is difficult to understand, though, is how this could even be considered - Brighton Marina is a designated, unprotected flood area by the Environment Agency.
How can Brighton and Hove City Council even consider such an application? If such a huge development was proposed for another flood plain, it would provoke uproar.
Also, the breakwaters surrounding Brighton Marina need substantial repair as a result of the action of seawater on the concrete and steel they are made from.
The proposed new flats would sit on platforms over the water on - guess what? - concrete and steel supports.
If 10m-wide breakwaters need substantial repair after 30 years, how long is it going to take 1-2m thick supports to require the same sort of major repair?
How would you feel sitting out a Force 8 gale in your 40th-story penthouse after ten years?
