Wayne Jackman (Letters, November 9) protests against Brighton and Hove City Council's proposals to extend 11-hour parking in the Goldsmid area.

Perhaps the proposals wouldn't be necessary if public bays were not

so obviously targeted by some residents, leaving their own reserved bays almost empty in many streets.

According to the council's web site, there isn't even a waiting list for Goldsmid residents' permits at £80 a year. However, this is about the monthly charge for pay-and-display and Mr Jackman's suggestion that some commuters may be more worthy than others is hilarious.

I will remember it when I see cars around here bearing the familiar Brighton parking permit.

Perhaps he should remember that one area's resident is another area's commuter.

I see more people queuing to get out of Brighton in the morning than coming into it.
