Your article let Network Rail give the impression it was not at fault for delays experienced by buses, their passengers, pedestrians and motorists at the railway crossing at Boundary Road in Portslade (The Argus, November 3).
In fact, Network Rail is 100 per cent responsible for the delays and these are simply not acceptable.
Network Rail's spokesperson quotes the barriers being down for a "lengthy period, usually ten minutes at the most".
If only! Twenty minutes is not uncommon.
The spokesperson continued: "We are not keeping the barriers down for longer than is necessary." What about my experience two Sundays ago? The barriers were down for ten minutes with no train due for eight minutes.
As many readers will know, this was not a one-off.
Network Rail needs to pull its socks up and drastically improve its service to the public by making sure that this, the only major railway crossing in Brighton and Hove, is operated efficiently with minimum delays.
