Hastings star Peter Tadros stormed up the steep slopes of Steyning Bostal in record time to win the first of Brighton Mitre's two open hill-climbs.

He then gained a narrow victory in the second event of the day at Mill Hill, Shoreham.

Tadros (In Gear) climbed the Bostal in 4min.11.1sec, beating the record by six seconds.

He outpaced Robert English (21st Century Airports), from Bracknell, who recorded 4min18.1sec.

Kent rider William Bell (Gemini) was third in 4min.19.1sec and Richard Pettinger (Oxonian) fourth (4min.21.6sec).

The Mitre team of Ishmael Burdeau, Stuart Fahey and Jan Schwinghammer won the team prize despite a strong challenge from the Bec CC team from Surrey.

Tadros then won the longer climb of Mill Hill. He clocked 7min.49.7sec while Pettinger was second (7min.51.1sec) and English third (8min.0.05sec). Fahey, sixth (8m.16.45sec), led the winning Mitre team.

Tadros won the overall classification with a maximum 100 points and collected over £500 worth of prizes.

The Bognor Regis CC Goodwood Classic time trial was won by Gavin Pardoe (Stourbridge) who covered the hilly 28-mile course in a new record of 1hr.7min.53sec.

Brighton rider Mike Coyle (VC Etoile), last year's winner, punctured but his clubmate Tim Mardall came third.

Polegate rider James Dear (In Gear) won the Addiscombe CC cyclo-cross race, while John Limpus and Mark Sinnott (GS Stella) won the Hainault 25-mile two-up time trial in Essex.

Another Sussex winner was Forest Row ace Sean Yates (In Gear), who won the main event at Goodwood motor circuit in a sprint finish.

Yates is among a top-class field for Brighton Mitre's 25 on Sunday, which starts just north of Steyning on the Ashurst Road at 8am.
