Sussex Police have arrested a man in connection with a spate of burglaries in Hove.

He was picked up yesterday in the heart of an area where 90 break-ins have been reported in just four weeks.

Chief Inspector Jane Rhodes, Hove police commander, said the arrest followed concerted efforts by plain clothed and uniformed officers in the area.

The man was still being questioned last night.

Doors to flats and houses have been kicked in and thousands of pounds' worth of electrical equipment, jewellery and cash has been stolen.

Most of the burglaries have taken place in the area bounded by Sackville Road, the Brighton border and the Brighton-Worthing railway line.

The greatest concentration has been in the Eaton Road, Church Road and Kingsway area. Many of the break-ins have been at flats.

Police warned people to increase home security and to report anyone acting suspiciously.
