Multi-talented Rebecca Carrington was a class act- a clever comedian, impressionist, singer and cellist.
In a delightful performance of nearly 90 minutes she showed why some people refer to her as the Victor Borge of the 21st Century. She is a performer with leading world orchestras and is also a session singer, backing jazz and pop artists.
She took us on a tour with her boyfriend, Joe, who is her cello. She ticked Joe off and talked to him affectionately as she regaled us with anecdotes and impersonations.
We had impersonations of Kylie, Bryan Adams and funny examples of the way different people play the cello. Her parody on Bollywood with high-pitched singing was hilarious.
The audience warmed to her as her act progressed. She was at her funniest when playing the cello, or rather Joe, and when impersonating rather than telling anecdotes.
To appreciate her fully, you need to have an understanding of classical music and all aspects of the music scene.
She was not loud or coarse like many female comedians in this comedy festival. Carrington puts all her singing, vocal and music-playing talents into one basket to produce a refreshingly different act which is well worth seeing wherever she performs.
