Hastings councillor Jay Kramer should take her politically correct head out of the sand.
Perhaps The Black And White Minstrels were wrong to black up. But they never behaved in a racist way.
Only wholesome comics like Leslie Crowther and George Chisholm appeared on the show. People like Bernard Manning were frowned upon.
I remember seeing the show as a boy in the early Sixties. I just saw it as a tribute to Al Jolsen. As a Jew, he was one of the first celebrities at the time to call on the US to go to war with the Nazis.
In Hastings and St Leonards we have a plague of beggars and petty criminals who the council street wardens don't seem to bother about.
Perhaps Coun Kramer ought to concentrate on that.
