(Cert 12A, 94mins): Starring Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate and David Koechner. Directed by Adam McKay

The Seventies: Big hair, wild clothes and rampant sexism in the work place.

Those were the glory years for Ron Burgundy (Ferrell), the award-winning anchorman of a San Diego news channel.

King of all he surveys and master of the cheesy chat-up line, he sits atop the polyester pantheon of pre co-ed news presentation.

That is, until he finds his position threatened by the arrival of female journalist, Veronica Corningstone (Applegate), a feminist ball breaker with her eye on becoming the network's first ever female anchor.

Forced to play dirty in the battle of the sexes, Ron unleashes a whirlwind of pheromone-charged fury and, along with a cadre of equally unenlightened colleagues, sets about toppling Veronica's dreams.

But this is not going to be a walk in the park for the Brut-splashed ladies men as Veronica resorts to dirty tactics of her own, aided by a small army of secretaries and assistants.

A couple of great running gags, some top-quality support and a hilarious central turn from Ferrell makes this a highly amusing companion piece to the equally chucklesome recent release Dodgeball.
