I agree wholeheartedly that the Falmer stadium issue has become a political football and John Prescott's recent yes/no/maybe/next week/next year fudge of a non-decision is nothing short of a disgrace.

By overruling his own planning experts he has confirmed the only factor he took into account when making his decision was the prospects for his three sitting Brighton and Hove MPs next May.

Such blatant and cynical political manoeuvring has let down the directors, management, players and supporters of Brighton and Hove Albion who have put so much into the campaign for a new stadium.

Dick Knight and Martin Perry must have been tearing their hair out when Mr Prescott declared Withdean, Sheepcote Valley and Brighton Station should be reconsidered.

This farce has cost the club close on £3 million to date when the only two feasible locations have always been Falmer and Waterhall and Waterhall is supposedly ruled out because it is north of the bypass.

Petty party politics shouldn't play any part in decisions of such magnitude and Mr Prescott should be ashamed of himself.
