Crawley Town manager Francis Vines hailed his side's resilience after seeing them earn a point against title favourites Hereford United.

Charlie Mapes scored a quick free-kick four minutes from time to cancel out Adam Stansfield's first half header in Reds first home game in the Conference.

Vines said: "We never gave up and in the end that is why we got the point.

"We were run ragged for large parts of the game which was to be expected because they are full-time, but we showed we have got resilience.

"It was just a matter of not giving up and if you have that then anything is possible."

Vines played down his own role in the result. He fielded three strikers for the last half an hour which changed the complexion of the game.

He said: "What was I meant to do? You can either sit there and accept a 1-nil defeat or you can try and do something about it.

"All I did was force Hereford back into a defensive position and luckily it paid off."

After winning 2-1 in their opener away to Leigh RMI last Saturday, Crawley are now sixth in the Conference table ahead of Saturday's clash with Aldershot, who boast a 100 per cent record after two games.

In Conference south, Lewes won the big Sussex derby, beating Bognor 3-1 at Nyewood Lane.
